Who We Are

Background Information

Rural Agency For Pastoral Community Organization (RAPCO) is a local non-governmental organization working with Pastoral communities in Northern Kenya.it was initiated by young local professionals who have vast experience in humanitarian work. RAPCO was registered in Kenya as a Community Based Organization (CBO) in 2018 and later with NGO Coordination Board as a fully-Fledged NGO on December 2022.
RAPCO embraces the Community Driven Development (CDD) model that operates on the principles of transparency, participation, local empowerment, demand-responsiveness, greater downward accountability, and enhanced local capacity. The main purpose of community development is to organize the people to bring about sustainable development. This is to enable the people to collectively identify, prioritize and plan to solve their problems that ultimately leads to sustainable development.
RAPCO works for and through the community members to achieve overall development that meets the immediate and long term needs of community. The CDD places the community and its needs at the centre of its planning and implementation. RAPCO is also registered in Ethiopia with the Federal Government.
RAPCO has offices in Mandera and Turkana and field presence in Isiolo, Wajir,Garissa,Samburu and Marsabit in Kenya.its original mandate was to solely undertake pastoral community empowerment programmes and advocate for gender equality. Over the years, the mandate has expanded its scope to water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Education, conflict resolution and peace building, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR),livelihood programmes and Climate change Adaption (CCA)
RAPCO works in two countries in the Horn of Africa (HOA) including: Kenya and Ethiopia. It has bigger scope and strives to formulate a long term strategy that will enable the cross border communities to actualize peaceful co-existence and allow sharing of the cross-border natural resources.
RAPCO envisages promoting food security, enhancing the living conditions of the communities and providing the basis for the social and economic transformation which will enhance community resilience to climatic and man-made shocks common in the region.

The organization has a clear strategies and operational policies on how to conduct various interventions. We highly value the stakeholders that we work with and as such Community participation is part and parcel of our programs to ensure successful implementation and planned interventions. We work at grassroots, national and regional level to enhance the capacity of communities and advocates for their plights to elicit actions on their needs and interests in the national and international arena
